The light switch is a simple enough device that most of us can replace it ourselves. How it works is you have a switch that turns on and off a circuit. When the circuit is in the on position power is going from the switch to your device. If it is in the off position the power is not flowing. Many people when dealing with electrical problems will contact electrical contractors in La Crosse, WI for help.
How to fix a light switch?
Find a replacement. . You can normally find light switch covers in the same place you found your old one. If all else fails, try Home Depot or another hardware store.
Follow electrical wiring procedures. . This is important because you don’t want to shock yourself! Turn off power to the light switch at the circuit breaker panel box (This means turn off your main power switch too).
Unscrew and remove the screws holding in the light switch. There should be two of them. Using a flat headed screwdriver, pry up the light switch (it may take some force), being careful not to pull it out from its wiring harness. If there are any wires still connected to it, you may have to go back and remove them first.
Carefully wiggle the new light switch into place. It should fit snugly. Reinsert the screws you previously removed (the ones holding the old one in place). Tighten them down securely, but don’t overdo it! Remove any excess spackle or putty that is around the switch level with the hole in your wall, then push the switch into place until it’s secured. Once you’ve got it back on firmly, turn the power back on and give everything a test run!
